AFS Insurance & Financial Services was founded as Advanced Financial Security, Inc. in 2000 by the joining of Waynesboro Insurance Agency (established in 1972 by Link Shank) and Unger Insurance (established in 1952 by Robert Unger). It was owned and operated by their sons, respectively, Eric Shank and Christopher Unger, for eighteen years. Today it is a third-generation agency as Eric’s son, Matthew Shank, and longtime employee, Jennifer Moore, purchased the agency in 2018.
